We first saw some footage of Splatoon running on Nintendo Switch during it's reveal at the end of 2016, but Nintendo has finally shed a little more light on what we saw. Although many thought the game would simply be a port of the Wii U version of Splatoon, it was revealed during the Nintendo Switch presentation that Splatoon 2 will be launching as a sequel on the Switch. No hard release date has been given, but the game will release sometime during the summer of this year. The game features a whole new set of maps, weapons, and inklings alongside other new features. Keep reading for more details, a trailer, and plenty of screenshots.

Splatoon 2 seems to stay true to it's predecssor in terms of mechanics; the heart of the game centers around 4 vs. 4 Turf War battles that we are very familiar with. From the trailer we see a variety of new maps as well as a few remixes of maps from Splatoon. Splat Dualies were the only new weapons shown in the trailer, but more are promised. Just like Splatoon, Splatoon 2 will receive a large amount of post-release support and free supplemental content, presumably including Splatfests. The game will of course centralize on online multiplayer battles, but local multiplayer has been improved and up to 8 players can connect Switch consoles to play locally. Stay tuned for more information on Splatoon 2 and all things switch as summer draws near.
