Hyrule Warriors has seen releases on the Wii U and 3DS, and has now seen a subsequent expanded release on the Switch. The 3DS version offered slightly more content than the Wii U one did, but at a reduction in visual quality. Unfortunately, this resulted in some poor reviews, but finally all of the previous content plus some new costumes are on the Switch as of May 18th; however, is it worth the price? This is discussed after the break.

Despite enhanced visuals compared to even the Wii U version, the Definitive Edition likely isn’t the best choice for those who have played either version so far. While all of the content is in one place avoiding any need for purchasing extra DLC, there isn’t necessarily any new content that wasn’t available before. Because of this, the definitive edition does not offer anything new for those who have enjoyed the previous entries to the fullest.
Now that that’s out of the way, here are some reasons why you should consider this game. For starters, Hyrule Warriors does offer a lot of replayability due to having a very diverse roster of characters. What this means is that even the Switch version will still feel pretty fresh to those who lightly played through both the Wii U and 3DS versions before, but wanted to play them more. Hardcore fans of the game, and fans of the Dynasty Warriors series might be enticed to pick this up, as more sales would likely increase odds for a sequel, or another spinoff title. Furthermore, those who only played the 3DS version might be super interested in seeing this game in crisp HD with a render distance more than 5 feet away from the player.
In the end, if you have played through the entirety of the Wii U or 3DS version and don’t want to do it again, then this $60 enhanced port definitely isn’t for you. If you’re a hardcore fan of Zelda and Dynasty Warriors and have made it to this point in the article, then I would expect you have already bought this game; if not, what are you waiting for? For the general consumer though, $60 is a lot to ask for a game that you can technically get for the Wii U or 3DS for around $20, and because of that I would have to say no, the Definitive Edition of Hyrule Warriors really isn’t worth the $60 price tag – It would be worth it for $40 though.
