The long awaited sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild got an official title and release date in the lastest Nintendo Direct. The next 3D Zelda game will be called The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. It's set to launch next spring, on May 12, 2023. A brief cinematic trailer with some gameplay footage was also shown.
In the trailer, Link can be seen leaping into the skies in the style of Skyward Sword. It also seems like some sort of new rune is shown, which allows the incremental movement of objects in time. A new gliding device, shaped like a stone bird, that Link rides atop can be seen.
After over six years of waiting for the next 3D Zelda game, we can only hope that this game lives up to the precedent set by Breath of the Wild. With over six months until the release, move information is sure to be revealed, so stay tuned. In the meantime, check out the new trailer:
