Nintendo held their annual investors meeting on Monday; which you can check that out here. In their meeting, Iwata gave more information on the future of amiibo. As said in the past, Nintendo are still hard at work on creating amiibo cards, which will hopefully release later this year. He stated that it will be useful for those wanting to use amiibo that are not in production anymore. Check out the rest of the announcements after the break! Also mentioned was the 3DS amiibo peripheral, that will be compatible with original 3DS models this summer. The Wii U and New Nintendo 3DS already have built in amiibo support, and a Smash Bros. for 3DS update has already released adding amiibo support. Finally, Iwata has revealed that there will be a free app with which you can use your amiibo to enjoy NES and Super NES games. As said at the meeting, once you tap your amiibo on the NFC area of the GamePad, you will be able to play highlighted scenes of one certain title for NES or Super NES. However, there will be a time limit to the play time. Tapping another amiibo displays another highlight scene, replicating the feeling of quickly changing the game cartridge.
