This past Thursday, Nintendo held their annual financial briefing, talking about the company's marketing and business plans from the past year, as well as talking about the future of Nintendo's games. One highlight from their financial briefing is the sales of some of the most popular 3DS games, showing the sales continuing to grow. Some of these games include Mario Kart 7 at 11.7 million sales, Super Smash Bros. 3D at 6.75 million sales, and Pokemon X and Pokemon Y, together at 13.85 million sales.
Nintendo also reconfirmed some of the previously announced Wii U games, coming out during the fiscal year ending on March 31, 2016, with games like Splatoon releasing at the end of this month, Xenoblade Chronicles X, Mario Maker, Project Giant Robot, Star Fox Wii U, and a few others too. Keep reading for more information from the financial briefing after the break.
Following the recent popularity of amiibo, Iwata explained how there is a lot of growth in amiibo sales, since as of this year, 10.5 million units worldwide have shipped, while at the end of 2014, only 5.7 million units were shipped. He also touched upon the low stock of amiibo at stores, saying, "We have increased production for amiibo figures that have sold out very quickly after launch, that are indispensable to play a certain game and for which we have received strong demand from retailers and consumers." Iwata also told that on the other hand, it is hard to predict the overall demand for certain amiibo. A pie chart showed the amount of amiibo shipped worldwide, showing a majority of amiibo are shipped to the United States and Canada, while Australia seems to be lacking that quality.
Finally, following the announcement of Nintendo's partnership with mobile company DeNa, Iwata gave some new information as to Nintendo's plans on smart devices. He told that IPs and titles would appropriately be selected, most likely to keep interest and to select games that would work on a mobile phone. Iwata also revealed that five mobile titles will be released by March of 2017, with the first game application to be released within this calendar year.
It seems like Nintendo's sales are continuing to grow gradually, with lots of help from the popularity of amiibo. You can check out the full financial briefing report here if you want to check out some more information. You can also see some of Nintendo's sales demographics below.
